Maritime Radio Course (ROCm / DSC)

To operate a maritime radio, you need your Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement.

This course teaches emergency radio procedures and everyday operating techniques. Learn about the benefits and usage of newer radios with Digital Selective Calling.

Learn how to uses a marine radio, get familar with the phonetic alphabet, understand procedural words and phrases, and know what the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) means for those on the water.

It is illegal to operate a VHF radio without this certification (valid for your lifetime).

NOTE: A ROCm is not required to sail on the Glenmore Reservoir, it is only required if you turn on a VHF radio.

Notes:

  • A station license is not required for Canadian boaters in Canadian waters
  • You will need a VHF Station License if you plan to travel on US waters.
