    Keelboat 1 (Start Keelboat Sailing) develops fundamental keelboat sailing skills in moderate daytime conditions.

    Your self-study pre-course workbook can take up to 3 hours to complete. This is reviewed and marked at the reservoir with your instructor.

    This is a 15 hour course is taught over two consecutive 7.5 hour days at the Glenmore Reservoir.

    Course Information:

    • Afloat sessions for this course are aboard the Club's SanJuan 21 keelboats.
    • This course is required to crew on the Club's co-op keelboats. 
    • Student Standard for this Course - this course covers all Performance Objectives of the national standard except maneuvering under power. Outboard motors can not be used on lesson sailboats on the Glenmore Reservoir.

    Your self-study pre-course workbook can take up to 3 hours to complete. This is reviewed and marked at the reservoir with your instructor.

    This is a 15 hour course is taught over two consecutive 7.5 hour days at the Glenmore Reservoir.

    Course Information:

    • Afloat sessions for this course are aboard the Club's SanJuan 21 keelboats.
    • This course is required to crew on the Club's co-op keelboats. 
    • Student Standard for this Course - this course covers all Performance Objectives of the national standard except maneuvering under power. Outboard motors can not be used on lesson sailboats on the Glenmore Reservoir. 
    • Students achieving all Performance Objectives covered during this course will receive a Certificate of Completion from the Club (not the Start Keelboat Sailing Standard).
    • Instructor Standard (qualifications of instructors for this course).
    • Alberta Sailing Association and Sail Canada Course Levy applied during course registration.

    The Basic Cruising Skills book is optional but HIGHLY recommended. :)

    Students can purchase Basic Cruising Skills at a discounted price when registering for this course. Books will be available to pick up at the clubhouse prior to your course or your instructor will have copies for you the day of your course.

    Revised in 2019; illustrated; 208 pages covering all the skills and language of the rigging and safe operation a sailboat.
