Keelboat 2 (Keelboat Skipper) expands your sailing knowledge and experience, and adds the skills required to be a successful lake sailor in Calgary - including sailing away from and to the dock and trailering skills (see note A).

During this course, you are put in charge of the sailboat and crew during all sailing manoeuvers.

Successful completion requires consistent demonstration of abilities on the water.

  • Course prerequisite: Keelboat 1 (Start Keelboat Sailing).
  • This course is required to skipper the Club's co-op keelboats.
  • These are the Performance Objectives covered in Keelboat 2 (Keelboat Skipper).
For students panning to continue their education with Keelboat 3, all Basic Cruising Standard Performance Objectives are covered in both the Keelboat 2 and Keelboat 3 courses.

Basic Cruising Skills Book

The Basic Cruising Skills book is required reading for this course.

Students who don't have this book from their Keelboat 1 course can purchase it at a discounted price.

Revised in 2019; illustrated; 208 pages covering all the skills and language of the rigging and safe operation a sailboat.
