Youth Sailing Instructors and Coaches
The Club hires instructors and coaches to instil a love and joy for sailing in youth.
The community comes to us for affordable sailing Education, Recreation, Social Events and Racing programs.
Programs our staff support include:

Youth Summer Sailing Camp instruction (CANSail) - including lesson plan creation and completing sailor evaluations

Mobile Optimist Sailing School (MOSS) -teaching at lake communities throughout the city

Scouts and Girl Guide Sailing programs
-
Collegiate Sailing program instruction and coaching
-
Youth Race Team coaching
-
Public education
-
Private lessons
Sailing Instructor candidates will possess:
-
Minimum CANSail 1/2 instructor certification
-
Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
-
Strong organizational and communication skills
Race Coach candidates will possess:
-
Minimum CANSail 1/2 instructor certification (higher levels preferred)
-
Experience with coaching racing on variety of boats, including Opti, laser, 420, 29er and small keel boats
-
Knowledge of the Racing Rules of Sailing
-
Significant Racing Experience (including trapezing and spinnaker)
-
Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills
-
Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
-
Willingness to travel for regattas (both local and out of towns)
-
Work Hour flexibility including evenings, weekends and some daytime July/Aug
-
Form of Transportation to travel to out of town regattas and training camps (towing capability is an asset)
Head Coach will possess:
-
Minimum CANSail 1/2 instructor certification
-
Experience with staff scheduling, planning and budgeting
-
Experience with team management, conflict resolution,
-
and customer service
-
Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills
-
Work Hour flexibility including evenings, weekends
-
Ability to troubleshoot and identify solutions for day-to-day problems
-
Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening
Both Coaches and Instructors shall have:

Experience working with youth ages 6 through older teens (up to 18)
-
Ability to creatively teach sailing fundamentals (both on and off water)
-
Current Sail Canada registration
-
Current Emergency First Aid and CPR
-
Current Boat Rescue
-
Current Pleasure Craft Operator Card
-
Current Coach Boat Safety
-
Current National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) modules
-
Ability to tow boat trailers is an asset
-
Learning Facilitator certification is considered an asset
-
Sail Canada Program Manager course completion is also considered an asset.

Instructors are instrumental in the delivery of the youth sailing instruction through the Youth Summer Camps, and shall contribute to a “fun, safe and respectful” experience for all sailors.
